My radar can tell rain from bugs.

Raw NOAA radar, decoded at home, graded against my own rain gauge.

Worth it? Vote it up or down.

The question

Can my own radar beat the weather apps I pay for?

What happened

Live Raleigh radar on my phone and a minute-by-minute rain line for the house. It also says when the radar is seeing birds or bugs instead of rain, by checking whether the echo drifts with the wind. One night the bug bloom went from 11,000 to 196,000 radar readings within 45 minutes of sunset.

Verdict: Worked

Every forecast gets graded against my backyard rain gauge, so I know when it's right.
